On 5 June, Azerbaijan Tourism and Management University (ATMU) hosted an awareness-raising event on “Strengthening the Role of Educational Institutions in Combating Trafficking in Human Beings” with the support of the Agency on State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations.

Addressing the event, I. Madatov, Rector of Azerbaijan Tourism and Management University, emphasized the importance of such training events in enhancing the awareness and legal knowledge of current and future tourism professionals on combating trafficking in

human beings, as well as strengthening their capacity to identify and prevent potential risks at an early stage.

A representative of the Main Department on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings at the Ministry of Internal Affairs provided participants with comprehensive information on the prevention of trafficking in human beings, the nature of the crime, the threats it poses, ongoing efforts to combat trafficking in human beings, and the administrative, criminal law, protection, and other measures ensured by the State.

The representative also stressed that combating trafficking in human beings requires not only the efforts of law enforcement agencies but also the active participation of all members of society, including organizations operating in the tourism sector. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of tourism professionals being able to recognize indicators of trafficking in human beings, identify potential risks at an early stage, and promptly report relevant information to the competent authorities as an essential element in preventing such crimes.

The event also featured presentations by the Chairperson of the “Support to Police” Public Union, who is the project manager, as well as invited experts.

At the conclusion of the event, participants’ questions were answered in detail.
