The 12th Global Conference of INTERPOL Expert Groups on Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling took place from October 28 to 30 in Belgrade, Republic of Serbia. The event was jointly organized by the General Secretariat of INTERPOL and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia. It was moderated by INTERPOL’s Expert Group on Trafficking in Human Beings and the Specialized Operational Network (ISON) on Migrant Smuggling.
S. Garayev, Head of Division of the Main Department on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, represented Azerbaijan at the conference.
In his speech, S. Garayev highlighted Azerbaijan's experience in combating human trafficking, particularly the establishment of the Ethics Commission on Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as mandated by the Law on Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues. He noted that the commission investigates suspected cases of illegal organ transplantation, and the collected materials are forwarded to criminal prosecution bodies, initiating relevant legal proceedings.
Azerbaijan’s approach was recognized as noteworthy, and it was announced that this experience would be studied by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The conference also included presentations by INTERPOL criminal investigation officers, who shared insights on operational measures undertaken by the organization to combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling across different regions of the world.
