On October 2-3, the 13th meeting of the Working Group was held at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria.
The meeting was attended by Police Colonel Samir Garayev, head of the division of the Main Department on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and Police Major Ceyhun Abbasov, head of the division of the International Cooperation Department.
The conference, which included representatives from UN member states, focused on enhancing guidance mechanisms to combat corruption crimes related to human trafficking, addressing human trafficking crimes committed against children, and other forms of human trafficking.
Participants from various countries shared insights and information about their national efforts in these areas.
Police Colonel Garayev provided an overview of the Republic of Azerbaijan's legislation and actions against corruption. He discussed Azerbaijan's ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse. He highlighted the amendments made to national legal acts by the Law dated December 27, 2022, to align with the convention. Garayev detailed the newly added articles to the Criminal Code and the special procedures for the criminal prosecution of children in the Criminal-Procedural Code. He also covered amendments to the Labour Code, Family Code, Law on Children's Rights, Law on Lawyers and Advocacy, Law on Dactyloscopic and Genome Registration, and the Law on Education to enhance child safety.
Additionally, Samir Garayev presented improvements to the National Referral Mechanism rules concerning victims of human trafficking.
The discussions concluded with recommendations aimed at implementing the UN Convention on Combating Transnational Organized Crime.
