As a result of operations conducted by the Main Department on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Gulnara Maharramova was apprehended.  This suspect exploited the trust of women who are citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, transporting them to Balikesir, Turkey, where they subjected them to sexual exploitation.

The investigation into this matter has been concluded, and the case materials have been forwarded to the Baku Grave Crimes Court for adjudication. In accordance with the court's verdict, Gulnara Maharramova was found guilty of human trafficking under Articles 144-1.2.1, 144-1.2.2, and 144-1.2.4-1 of the Criminal Code and has been sentenced to eight years and six months of imprisonment.
