Training Being Held in Ganja Discusses Efforts to Combat Human Trafficking

With the support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the organization of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Azerbaijan, a series of trainings on combating human trafficking are being held in Ganja. These trainings, conducted within the framework of the "Counter-Trafficking in Persons Activity" project, commenced on October 27 and will continue for three days.

US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Earle Litzenberger, speaking at the event on the first day, highlighted the significant measures being taken in Azerbaijan to combat human trafficking. He acknowledged that the adoption of four National Action Plans "On Combating Human Trafficking," approved by orders from President Ilham Aliyev, represents substantial progress in this area. Ambassador Litzenberger praised the participation of various state institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the trainings, emphasizing their pivotal roles in the combating human trafficking. He expressed confidence that the trainings would be highly productive.

Vladimir Georgiyev, head of the International Organization for Migration in Azerbaijan, also emphasized the successes Azerbaijan has achieved in combating human trafficking.

Further contributions were made by Ramil Kazimov and Araz Babayev, heads of divisions of the Main Department on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, along with Elshad Mammadli, chief operations commissioner for Special Important Cases. Their presentations covered the national legislative framework for combating human trafficking, the identification of trafficking victims, support centers, shelters for victims, and other related topics. Additionally, representatives from non-governmental organizations also delivered speeches.
